Shire of Coolgardie CEO Health Update – COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
Shire Events and Public Gatherings
Today, the WA Health Department, published advice regarding the obligations for organising small public gatherings and events.
This includes risk assessments to be undertaken, reviewed and updated through the planning and delivery of any event including ones under 500 participants.
As you would be aware, the Department of Health has advised that some people may be at higher risk of infection including those who are vulnerable and the elderly. Consequently, the Shire is reviewing its upcoming events calendar to ensure it is consistent with the Department’s advice.
The Shire has evaluated this week’s upcoming events against the above criteria and made the difficult decision to cancel the following events:
Coolgardie
- Centrecare Visit
- Harmony Day – March 17th, 2020
- PINGO - March 18th, 2020
Kambalda
- Circuit Class – Monday, Wednesday and Friday
The Shire will continue to monitor advice received in relation to small gatherings and liaise with the local government sector on other ways the Shire’s community members can access services beyond physical attendance at events.
Any further cancellations will be reviewed throughout the week and participants will be informed.
Information about the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is available on the Department of Health’s website (www.health.wa.gov.au) and we continue to remind people to practice social distancing and handwashing.
Regards,
James Trail
