No. you cannot live on your land in a caravan or shed. You will have to apply for a Building Permit to construct your dwelling and associated services – sewer, water, power.
Can someone live in a caravan on my residential site?
No. WA legislation restricts the use of caravans to licensed caravan parks. The legislation provides for short stay Living in a caravan on a residential site, is limited to:
- Up to 3 nights (in total) in any period of 28 consecutive days:
- approval required from the property
- Is limited to one
If you want to have someone stay for:
- More than 3 nights and up to 3 months: approval is required from: -
- the property owner and Shire of Coolgardie
- Is limited to one
- May be subject to planning scheme
- Between 3 to 12 months: approval required from: -
- the property owner, Shire of Coolgardie, and the Minister for Local Government.
- Is limited to one caravan.
- May be subject to planning scheme provisions.
Caravan parks are required by law to supply a certain level of services and utilities to its customers. If a person uses a caravan outside a licensed park without the correct approvals or exemptions, they risk committing an offence. This will be the case irrespective of whether the land is private property or public land.
If you have a commercial or industrial site, you will also be subject to planning legislation requirements.
