The implications of a challenging year brought on by COVID-19 were nowhere to be seen last Wednesday when residents flocked to the Shire of Coolgardie’s annual Seniors’ Christmas Luncheon.
After the pandemic had earlier forced long periods of lockdown and precious time away from family and friends, the Shire’s seniors revelled in an opportunity to celebrate what everyone hopes are better times ahead.
It was an occasion Shire of Coolgardie president Malcolm Cullen lauded as a fitting example of wonderful community spirit as demonstrated by the number of volunteers who assisted at the event.
“People turned out not only in big numbers, but also great spirits which really demonstrated the high level of community empathy and support among the Shire’s community,” Cr Cullen said.
“Even in the most challenging circumstances, we continue to thoroughly support each other in so many different ways.
“That was reflected not only in numbers, but by the fact everyone involved had a thoroughly enjoyable time”.
One-hundred and forty seniors packed the Coolgardie Community Recreation Centre to enjoy various live entertainment, including performances from Coolgardie Primary School, Christian Aboriginal Parent Directed School students and guitarist Chris Edmondson.
Wednesday’s program spanned four hours and was complemented by a buffet roast lunch.
