In a recent session held at the Kambalda Community Recreation Facility, our senior citizens gathered for a crucial bushfire awareness presentation. Facilitated by Sheree Forward, Emergency Management Officer and Steve Forward, Chief Bush Fire Control Officer for the Shire, the event provided a blend of practical information and community-oriented advice.
Rooted in the teachings of the Department of Fire and Emergency, the presentation aimed to equip seniors with essential knowledge on how to be well-prepared for potential bushfires. Sheree and Steve, with their friendly demeanour, guided the seniors through the intricacies of bushfire preparedness, adapting the information to suit the unique needs of our senior community.
Recognizing the importance of community support, Sheree and Steve encouraged the formation of buddy groups, especially for those without family in proximity. This initiative fosters a sense of unity and shared responsibility within the community, emphasizing the importance of looking out for one another during challenging times.
A practical tip highlighted during the presentation was the inclusion of medications in everyone’s Bushfire Kit. This simple addition ensures that seniors have access to necessary medications in case of evacuation, prioritizing their health and well-being during emergencies.
Furthermore, Sheree and Steve emphasized the Department of Fire and Emergency as the primary and reliable source of truth during bushfire situations. They guided the seniors on where to find accurate and up-to-date information, reinforcing the importance of staying informed and following official guidelines for everyone's safety.
In conclusion, this bushfire awareness presentation not only delivered valuable knowledge but also fostered a sense of community resilience among the senior citizens of Kambalda. The commitment of Shire staff members and Coolgardie Volunteer Fire Fighters in sharing essential tips reflects dedication to the well-being of our community, making Kambalda a safer and more prepared place for everyone.
The Shire of Coolgardie plans to run more Bushfire Awareness presentations in the future. If you would like to be kept up to date about these sessions please sign up for event notifications here
