In the heart of the Goldfields Oasis Recreation Facility, a vibrant spectacle unfolded on Tuesday, July 9th, as the Shire of Coolgardie proudly fielded their team for the CommonHealth Games. Amongst the cheers and camaraderie, the Kambalda contingent led by the indomitable Wendy, rallied together for a day of spirited competition and joyous celebration.
Wendy, with her infectious enthusiasm and natural leadership, guided a team of remarkable seniors: Jan, Joan, Dahma, Bonny, Jenny, Ned, and Kea. Their journey was not just about medals, but about forging bonds of friendship and experiencing the thrill of healthy competition.
The day began with an official welcome and the stirring notes of the national anthem, setting the tone for what would be a day filled with joy, laughter, and friendly rivalry. The atmosphere was electric as the Kambalda team took on challenges with grit and determination. From seated hockey to pass ball, each game tested skill and teamwork, while the bean bag toss and skittles added a touch of fun and friendly competition.
Amidst the games, lunch brought everyone together, sharing stories and camaraderie over a delicious spread. Behind the scenes, the unwavering support of Gerry and his wife Barbara ensured smooth travels and warm encouragement throughout the day. The Shire's dedicated staff members Ava, Kyra, and Estelle provided invaluable support, cheering their team every step of the way.
As the day progressed, cheers echoed across the grounds during the eagerly anticipated competition between volunteers and staff members, a thrilling finale that brought out the competitive spirit in everyone.
