The results of the Shire of Coolgardie 2021 Community Survey are in – and the Shire has demonstrated improvements across the board.
The last Community Survey was conducted in 2019 and received 178 responses, whereas the 2021 survey received 264 responses from community members.
Key results of the survey include:
- 71% of respondents ranked the Shire as an excellent or good place to live (up from 45% in 2019)
- A quarter of respondents (25.7%) describe themselves as having a higher quality of life (up from 8.7% in 2019)
- 9% of respondents indicated the Shire’s overall performance was average to excellent, a 25% improvement from 2019 results
- 70% of respondents indicated the Council’s overall performance was average to excellent, a 22% improvement from 2019 results
- Improvements in service delivery for:
- Shire roads (up 9.8% from 2019)
- Landfill site / tip (up 12.8% from 2019)
- Swimming pools (up 47.5% from 2019)
- Community services and support (up 13.6% from 2019)
- Recreation Centres (up 9.6% from 2019)
Shire President Malcolm Cullen said he was proud of the results achieved.
“We’ve been more active with our communications strategy of informing our community about what’s going on in both our towns,” said Cr Cullen.
“There’s been a perception that Council and staff weren’t talking to the community and we’ve made a concerted effort to change that.”
“I think the Shire Council and staff have endeavoured to work collaboratively with the community over the past couple of years. I think people are starting to see changes, such as our new Meals on Wheels service, and appreciate the work Shire staff are doing to get these off the ground.”
