On Sunday 26 January, Australia Day 2025 was a memorable occasion for the Coolgardie community, with a morning full of fun, entertainment, and reflection. Despite the long weekend public holiday and hot weather leading to a slightly lower turnout, the event was still a huge success, with great community spirit and feedback received from those who attended.
The morning kicked off at 9:00 AM with a delicious community breakfast cooked by the dedicated volunteers from the Coolgardie RSL. This year, in a delightful twist, pancakes were added to the menu alongside the usual bacon & egg rolls, and the new addition was certainly well-received by attendees! Thank you, Coolgardie RSL, for volunteering this year.

Fun activities for everyone
Children under 12 had the chance to participate in a fun colouring competition, and we’re pleased to announce that Ethan and Victoria were the winners, each receiving a small gift for their fantastic effort. There was also a lively Best Dressed Competition, with the lucky winner taking home a $50 Luna Beez voucher.
The little ones were kept entertained with some fabulous face painting on offer, while the local duo Jessie and Simon entertained the crowd with their performance of the greatest Australian hits.
Australia Day Awards
Shire President Malcolm Callum took on the role of MC for the day, and together with Councillor Rose Mitchell and Daphne Simmons, handed out the prestigious Australia Day Awards to community members who have made outstanding contributions to our town.
After the festivities wrapped up at 11:00 AM, attendees were invited to cool down with a swim at the Coolgardie Pool.

Reflect, Respect, Celebrate
This year’s Australia Day message was a reminder to all of us to Reflect, Respect, and Celebrate. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together, reflect on our shared history, and recognise the importance of true reconciliation while celebrating the rich diversity within our community. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Australia National Day Council for their generous grant, which supported this event.
We’d love to hear from you!

Thank you again to all who attended, volunteered, and made this event such a special occasion for the Shire of Coolgardie. We look forward to seeing you again next year!
