On Tuesday 5, November 2024, the Coolgardie Community Recreation Centre hosted a fantastic Melbourne Cup gathering, where 26 local residents came together to enjoy the “race that stops the nation.” The event was a delightful afternoon of fun, fashion, and festivities, with everyone dressed to impress and eager to enjoy the excitement of the famous race.
The gathering kicked off with a delicious afternoon tea, where guests sipped on tea, nibbled on treats, and shared plenty of laughter. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as everyone eagerly awaited the main event—the Melbourne Cup race.
As part of the celebrations, attendees were invited to dress up for the occasion, with prizes awarded for the best-dressed individuals. There was also a lovely door prize on offer: a beautiful painting donated by local artist Gudrun, which added an extra touch of charm to the event.
Special thanks go to Councillor Corey Matthews and his partner, who played a crucial role in organising the event and providing the afternoon tea. Their efforts helped make the event a memorable one. Ann Meagher from the Coolgardie RSL also deserves a big thank you for organising the sweepstakes, adding a fun element of chance to the afternoon.
Events like the Melbourne Cup gathering play an important role in bringing the community together, and the Coolgardie Community Resource Centre is always keen to hear new ideas for future events.
